For the Office of Secretary

Euem_C_OsmeraEuemduan Osmera or Euem (pronounced oom), as she likes to be called is at the McGoogan Library of Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska as their main cataloger. In her job she does original and complex cataloging as well as database cleanup and authority control. In addition she is already serving on several committees: Publicity Committee, Chair and UNMC LiveGreen Earth Day Planning Committee. Euem graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with her BS in library science with a double minor in history and computer science. During her time there she served as a library assistant at McGoogan in the Interlibrary Loan Department. She then completed her MLIS at the University of South Florida, Tampa where she received her degree in May 2001. Euem relates that she came “back” to UNMC to fulfill her wish to be an academic librarian.

Her first job after graduating from library school was in a small public library, New Port Richey, Florida, as the head of technical services; however, she got extensive experience in all aspects of the library, as she served as acting director when the director was absent from the library. This included stints in circulation, reference and even the children’s section. She was recruited for this position prior to graduation, which she said was a relief as she didn’t have to send out a lot of resumes. She then transferred to a larger public library in Largo, Florida, in the Technical Services Department. However, she knew her heart was in being an academic librarian and she is excited to be at McGoogan. She and her husband have two children, a seven year old girl and a boy who is five. When she was home with her infant daughter she began watching cooking shows, which piqued her interest in cooking. She loves to cook and bake and even flirted with the idea of doing some catering as a sideline, at one time. After retirement, she is opening up a Thai taco truck! Euem likes working in the library field because she feels it is a positive place to work – people seem to view libraries as a place where they get a lot of value for their time and money. The library contributes to increased literacy and education for those using it and she upholds those values as well.

Susan Mueller received her Master of Librarianship from Emporia State University. in 2007 she graduated with a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. She has held a variety of library positions in her career. She has worked in public libraries, medical libraries, law libraries and most recently in academic libraries.

She is currently the Coordinator of Collection Services at the Calvin T. Ryan Library at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She enjoys the variety of things she does in her current position. She has been involved with ALCTS for quite some time and is currently on the Affiliate Relations committee. She enjoys working on puzzles and genealogy in her spare time.
