Backupify is a service that will create backup copies of your online services such as Flickr, Google Docs, Blogger, GMail, WordPress and more. The best thing is that it’s free, forever, providing you sign up before January 31st, 2010. I’ve been using it for a week now and love the security it’s providing me.

Windows 7 Network Activity Indicator

In older version of Windows, when you were connected to a network, there was a small icon in the system tray that blinked showing network activity. In Windows 7 you just get an icon that shows whether you’re connected, activity or not. To get that icon back just download and install the free Network Activity Indicator for Windows 7 from Igor Tolmachev. I installed it on my home desktop over the weekend and I’ve had blinky goodness ever since.

De-dupe your Google Contacts

You may not have noticed recently, but when you access your contacts in Google you have a new button to search for duplicate contacts.
Here’s my results:
The first one was for two different Barnes & Noble stores so they weren’t really duplicates. But the other two were. So, a quick click of the Merge button and two become one.

The future of the mouse?

“Microsoft’s Mouse 2.0 project is an interesting look at the next step for pointing devices in five completely different versions of multitouch mice. One of the things I liked about the Mouse 2.0 news is that we put our cards on the table at a very early stage and asked what the public thought. Speak up, we’re listening.
“Dan Rosenfeld is a researcher who is at the center of the Mouse 2.0 project. I stopped by Dan’s office to see what he’s working on and if I could squeeze any more details out about how they work, how we’ll develop for them, and what we can expect. I’ll be stopping by again to look at some of the other Mouse 2.0 contenders soon so leave your questions in the comments.”

Reduce Firefox's memory hoggage

Ever notice that Firefox tends to be a memory hog? If not, you’re obviously not a Firefox user. According to this article from Lifehacker, the Memory Fox program will “keep an eye on your browser’s memory usage and notices when Firefox starts edging toward user-preset resource limits. When it does, the extension springs into action, automatically flushing your memory to recover space and keep your browser from slowing down.”
This addon looks promising especially for those with older computers without a lot of memory. (Public access computers anyone?)
